Marrow Donor Registry Drive Held at Methodist Hospital, August 2008

In recognition of National Minority Donor Awareness Day, Methodist Healthcare and the local chapter of the National Marrow Donor Program collaborated to conduct a marrow donor drive. Nearly 30 individuals were registered on the national marrow donor registry; more than half were of minority background.


Paired Kidney Exchange Transplant News Conference, May 2008

A news conference was held at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital to announce a history making event!!....the first paired kidney exchange transplant in Texas to take place simultaneously in the same facility. Donors and recipients met for the first time just prior to the event.


Donate Life Month Events Held at Methodist Hospital Facilities, April 2008

In recognition of National Donate Life Month celebrated yearly during the month of April, Methodist Healthcare held exhibits at four Methodist Hospital facilities during the week of April 21 to 24. Methodist Transplant Services staff, the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, and the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center conducted exhibits to create organ and tissue donation awareness. Nearly 70 individuals signed up as organ and tissue donors through the Donate Life Texas Registry.



Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Clinic Patients’ Quilts

The Adult Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Clinic proudly displays quilts comprised of squares designed by BMT transplant patients. To date there are two completed quilts being displayed in the Clinic and a third will be added soon.



Get Game - Give Life Event, 2008

Texas Transplant Institute physicians, patients, and staff participate at the Get Game – Give Life Donor Awareness event at a San Antonio Spurs game held on March 10, 2008. Dr. Francis Wright spoke during the game’s half time to an audience of over 17,000 about the importance of organ and tissue donation. Transplant Services staff distributed donor awareness bracelets and encouraged game participants to sign-up as organ and tissue donors through the Donate Life Texas Registry.
